Florence Park House Concerts - FAQ

Where is this concert, anyway?
The living and dining rooms of my house just South of Florence Park. The address will be provided once you have reserved a spot for a concert.

Who are these musicians? Can I suggest someone?
These are generally people who I have seen play live, and I am comfortable they will put on a great show. Please send me your suggestions, and include a link to their music so I can check them out. I will consider out of town musicians on a case-by-case basis.

Can you really fit a whole audience in your house? Who should I bring?
Sure, up to about 25 people seated in chairs and on the couch. Reservations are suggested, and there is no standing room. Bring anyone you like, just let us know in your reservation how many you expect. It’s sometimes hard for children under 13 to sit for this long, so please talk to me before bringing younger kids.

When does the show start? What’s the schedule?
I can’t say, but if you arrive after 7:59pm you will have to wait in the kitchen for the next break. You can arrive as early as 7:15 if you want to help out, or 7:30 if you just want to watch the show. There will be a 20-minute opener, then a 45-minute headliner. The music will be over by 9:30, and you’re welcome to stay until about 10:00 for conversation. Then we have to clean up so we can make it to work in the morning!

Who provides the beer?
Nobody, because this is an alcohol-free event. No smoking indoors or on the porch, either. We’re here to enjoy the music without any “enchancements”.

OK, so what IS there to eat and drink?
The host (me) will provide appetizers and soft drinks. You’re welcome to bring more appetizers to share and soft drinks of your choice.

How much is the cover charge?
There is no cover. We are here to support the musicians, and a $10 donation per person is suggested. All money goes to the artists, I don’t keep a dime. A hat will be passed during the break of the headliner’s set.

Are there any special rules at this thing?
Yes. There is no talking permitted during the music, other than quiet whispers. We’re all here to enjoy the show, and we can’t do that if you’re relating the best plays of your last water-polo game. Also, if your cell phone rings during the show you will be hanged in the backyard. OK, not really, but seriously turn it off during the show.
